CODEX Entry 1201: Mithra
Mithra was the God of contracts or justice. Much is made of the absence of Zorasthrian texts on Mithra, despite being a member of the ahuric triad. In Artaxerxes II’s inscription, at Susa and Hamadan, the emperor appeals to “Ahuramazda, Anahita, and Mithra protect me against all evil.” In the Vedic traditions of India, Mitra, also meaning contract, is a prominent deity of the Rigveda. Often presented in a female form, and with a seven pointed star behind his head, he is the inspiration behind the Statue of Liberty.
